Dr. Neil Floch is an internationally known and respected bariatric, reflux and general surgeon. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Tufts University. Dr. Floch attended the Boston University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Beth Israel Medical center in New York City. Dr. Floch has a Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery from The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville Florida.

Dr. Floch developed expertise in bariatric, anti-reflux, and laparoscopic surgery. He started bariatric Surgery at Fairfield County Bariatrics and developed the bariatric surgery center at Norwalk Hospital in 2002 and has grown the program over the past 18 years. He has performed thousands of laparoscopic gastric sleeve, laparoscopic gastric bypass, and gastric bands. Dr. Floch is trained in Robotic Surgery. He is an expert in laparoscopic revisional bariatric surgery and laparoscopic general surgery. He cares for many patients seeking an alteration to their bariatric procedure.

Dr. Floch has been highly recognized for his surgeries throughout Connecticut, New England, and New York. Although his passion is surgery and he has performed many simple and technically difficult, complex procedures, Dr. Neil Floch is highly regarded for his work in communications in the academic surgery world. Doctor Floch is a highly regarded public speaker and has appeared at ASMBS, MISS, SAGES meetings throughout the country and his talks have been given internationally as well. His interviews, articles, and social media appearances have been quoted in magazines such as Forbes and appeared through the AP news onto numerous TV News throughout the country and in newspapers such as The New York Times and USA Today.

Dr. Floch performed a one-year fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic with the pioneer of laparoscopic heartburn surgery, Dr. Ronald A. Hinder. He received advanced laparoscopic training in the performance of the Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication, Laparoscopic Toupet Fundoplication, Laparoscopic Paraesophageal Hernia Repair, and Laparoscopic Heller Myotomy. He was specifically trained to deal with complex postoperative situations that involved treating patients who had recurrent surgical problems. These skills have led Dr. Floch to become an expert in revisional antireflux and hiatal hernias surgery.

Dr. Floch is committed to treating new patients as well as those in need of revisional antireflux surgery. Dr. Floch is the first fellowship-trained advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon in Fairfield County. In addition to performing surgery, he has used his skills to train many surgeons in the techniques of advanced laparoscopic surgery.

Dr. Floch is the Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery and Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery at Norwalk Hospital (Nuvance Health) in Norwalk CT. He personally designed and instituted the first two advanced minimally invasive operating rooms in Fairfield County. He is an expert lecturer on laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication, laparoscopic paraesophageal hernia repair, preoperative Nissen fundoplication, and laparoscopic bariatric surgery.

Doctor Floch has now performed over 500 laparoscopic antireflux procedures. In addition, he commonly performs hiatal hernia repairs in conjunction with bariatric surgeries. He is an expert in the laparoscopic Nissen, laparoscopic Toupet, laparoscopic Heller Myotomy, and the laparoscopic paraesophageal hernia repair. He is currently performing STRETTA and TORAX LINX as well. Dr. Floch has written over 21 articles on the topic of antireflux surgery and his paper on revisional antireflux surgery in Archives of Surgery in 1998 is commonly referred to as a reference to this day. He lectures on the topic of reflux surgery and paraesophageal hernia repairs to surgeons and physicians.

Dr. Floch’s academic accomplishments include twenty-one original journal publications and seven book chapters. He is currently on the Board of the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology. As a co-author and editor, he recently wrote over 100 pages on the anatomy of the esophagus, reflux disease and its complications, achalasia, hiatal and paraesophageal hernias as well as the surgical treatment of these diseases. This information can be found in the second edition of Netters Gastroeneterology which is published in over six languages including Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Chinese, and Italian. Currently, Dr. Neil Floch is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of The Society of American Gastroendoscopic Surgeons and The Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons. He is certified by the American Board of Surgeons and licensed in New York, Connecticut and Florida.

Dr. Floch is known both nationally and internationally for his work as a committee chairman for the ASMBS, American Society of metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons. He has also served as the President of the Connecticut ASMBS and united all the bariatric surgeons in the state to work together and cooperate in educating other doctors at the annual Obesity Summit Meeting, now in its third year. Doctor Floch was instrumental in developing a bill in the Connecticut state legislature to increase access for obesity surgery care.

Dr. Neil Floch is a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in Connecticut and the New York Tri-state area from 2012 to the present and was named a Top Doctor in Bariatric Surgery by Connecticut Magazine for 7 years. Doctor Floch has now joined Nuvance Health System as the Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery and Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery at Norwalk Hospital (Nuvance Health) where he seeks to grow and expand the program.
